Welcome back to the AI wave. I'm your host, Chris Parisi, and this is season three.

If you're new here, this podcast is where we explore the ever -changing world of artificial intelligence, but through a very specific lens, how it's impacting small businesses and real people right here in Rhode Island and beyond. So where have I been? Well, on the personal side, big life update, I'm now a proud girl dad of newborn twin daughters. Yep, twins with the toddler. I mean, we're in survival mode at home, but also feeling incredibly blessed. I have a wonderful wife, Megan, and three beautiful children. And on the professional side, something truly exciting happened.

If you listen into season one or two you probably remember me advocating maybe even rallying for the creation of the AI task force here in Rhode Island. We can't take a wait and see approach on AI. We need to take this AI movement seriously. Demand your state representatives and leaders to do something about this now.

Ultimately the call to action to our state leaders is to create an AI task force. Transformative time leads to an opportunity to shift the norm. - And guess what? We did it! Woo -hoo! Rhode Island now has an official AI task force and I have the honor of serving as its vice chair. AI task force is made up of an incredible cross -section of our state. We're talking leaders from the likes of Amica, Citizens Bank, General Dynamics, Care New England.

And alongside public sector heads too, like the director of department in labor training, shout out, Matt Weldon, Commerce Rhode Island, Department of Education. We have our chief digital officer, Brian Tartoff. He's the man. He's awesome and more. So you have public and private coming together and we're meeting regularly, right? Diving into both the opportunities and threats AI presents, not just in tech, but across all key sectors of Rhode in health care, small business, manufacturing.

And what's unique about our model is that each sector has an academia -led fact -finding team. These are a team of researchers led by professors from local universities, the smart people. Are they the ones doing the deep dives into the impact of AI in their assigned area? So this isn't just talk, it's a coordinated evidence -based approach and a lot of work has already gone in. And one big question we're now asking, what should Rhode Island go all in on? What's our niche in this

AI driven future? We've talked about ocean tech, life sciences, manufacturing, even just workforce development as a standalone strategy. But we want to know, what do you think? Here's how you can get involved. We've created an AI in our eye survey where anyone, yes you, anyone can weigh in. We really need your input.

This is your chance to influence our direction. What do you see as the biggest opportunities? What are you worried about? What's your vision for an AI -powered Rhode Island? We'll put the link in the show notes and if you're watching on YouTube you'll see the QR code pop up on screen now. I don't know where but it will pop up. And right now we're in the process of drafting our final report to the governor

But that's why we need your input, so that we can include that in the final report. And this report's going to include recommendations of how Rhode Island should move forward with AI across business, government, and everyday life. That's why your input is so important. Like if we want to do this right, we need to have all of us involved in this process. And it's not going to be just through that survey.

We're also going to host an AI and RI fireside chat. Now, that'll happen in the common months, Congressman Jim Langevin, our chairman will be there, Professor, Dr. Tim Henry, and others from the AI Task Force, where we'll be sharing what's going on with the AI Task Force and also listening in person from you. So make sure you attend and stay tuned for that. And then we'll finalize the report, draft it, deliver it to the governor in June, July, and then the AI Task Force is done. but that's when the real work begins. And it'll be up to you, it'll be up to the state, it'll be up to the private sector to carry this forward. So let's zoom out for a second. Because this piece of AI progress in the last six months, bananas. I mean, it's nothing short of jaw dropping. Just a few months ago, AI could write emails and summarize articles. Very helpful, very cute, but now it can build full websites from a sketch. You can give AI a spreadsheet and it'll not only analyze the data like it has always been. It will build you a dashboard, explain the trends, create little pie charts for you, it will suggest your next move strategically. Open AI for instance, they launched custom GPT so anyone, even non -coders, if you're not a coder, this is something you can do. You can build your own personalized AI assistants like coaches, copywriters, travel planners, sales strategies, work, life, whatever, all built in minutes and image generation tools. They're not worried about having six fingers on people anymore. I mean, you can edit photos with a simple prompt like, uh, make this sunset golden and add palm trees and just video. AI is now generating short video clips from plain text. I mean, we're talking early signs of full blown movie production from prompts. Hollywood. It's already utilizing it. And voice, you can clone your voice, translate it to another language, and it still sounds like you. Not robotic, like you just happen to speak flawless Spanish.

I'll look to release episodes in Spanish and other languages to make it more accessible. These aren't just party tricks. This is real, usable technology. And it's showing up in schools, offices, factories, like right now. And it's not just tools that's been progressing. Governments, They are moving fast too. The EU passed its AI Act. The US has new executive orders in states like Rhode Island as well as New Jersey, Massachusetts just invested 200 million, Texas, California. I mean, we're stepping up like Rhode Island to lead responsibly. So a lot has changed since this last episode, season two. But this season, season three, I'm here I hope you keep up, keep grounded and keep ahead. You'll hear from other members of the AI task force as well as founders, policy leaders and innovators across New England.

We'll explore tools you can actually use, trends to watch and how AI is transforming your industry, whatever that may be. This is the most exciting time of our lives. It's an inflection point for many of us. This show in this movement has always been about people. So get involved, take the survey, come to the fireside chat, say hello. Send me a message, just dive into AI, start building your own AI assistance, and subscribe so you don't miss what's coming next. Speaking of next episode, we're bringing on one of the voices from the task force to dive into what they're seeing from the inside. You're gonna love it.

Until then, let's stay curious, be involved, and ride the AI way. (upbeat music)
